BIOLOGY LESSON NOTE ON AGENTS OF SEED DISPERSAL

 Topic: Agents of seed dispersal.

Introduction

Seed dispersal is the process by which plants distribute their seeds to different locations. This is important for the survival and growth of the species. Various agents assist in seed dispersal.

Agents of seed dispersal

1. Wind: Wind can carry lightweight seeds over long distances. Seeds with wings or hair-like structures are particularly adapted for wind dispersal.

2. Water: Seeds can float on the surface of water and be transported by water currents to new locations. 

3. Animals: Animals, particularly mammals and birds, assist in seed dispersal by transporting seeds in their digestive tracts or on their fur or feathers. 

4. Gravity: Some seeds fall directly under the parent plant due to gravity. 

5. Explosion: Some plants have fruits that explode and scatter the seeds.

Conclusion:

Seed dispersal is an important process that enables the survival and growth of plant species. Understanding the agents of seed dispersal will help in managing and conserving plant populations.
