Step 1: Measurement of Temperature

Step 2: Types of Thermometers

- Alcohol expands more than mercury, suitable for very low temperatures.

Step 3: Reading a Thermometer
- Hold thermometer at eye level.
- Ensure the bulb is in contact with the substance being measured.
- Note the scale that the mercury/alcohol level reaches.
Example: Mercury level at 37°C indicates normal human body temperature.
Activity: Students practice reading temperature of hot water, cold water, and ice using different thermometers.
Step 4: Precautions When Using Thermometers
- Handle carefully; mercury is toxic.
- Avoid shaking glass thermometers violently.
