BIOLOGY LESSON NOTE ON HUMAN KIDNEY

Image
Lesson Note on the Human Kidney Topic: The Human Kidney Duration: 40 minutes Specific Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: Define the kidney and state its location in the human body. Identify and describe the structure and functions of the kidney. Explain the processes involved in urine formation (filtration, reabsorption, and secretion). Describe how the kidney contributes to homeostasis. Identify common kidney-related diseases and how to prevent them. Evaluate the importance of maintaining kidney health. Lesson Content: 1. Introduction to the Human Kidney The kidneys are vital organs in the human body responsible for filtering waste from the blood and regulating water and electrolyte balance. They are part of the excretory system and play a crucial role in homeostasis. Location: The kidneys are located in the abdominal cavity, on either side of the spine, just below the rib cage. Each kidney is bean-shaped and about the size of a fi...

BIOLOGY LESSON NOTE ON NUTRITION

Topic: NUTRITION

Age: 14+

Sex: Mixed

Instructional  Materials. Textbook, specimen, pictures,

Aim of the Lesson: To help the learner understand the Properties & functions of the cell

Anticipated Problems: Because of advancement in class, most themes might be new to the learner and might result to difficulty in understand.

Possible Solution: The teacher explains the concept in details using illustrations and real objects.

Content Objectives: By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to;

  1. Define of nutrition
  2. Explain autotrophic nutrition
  3. Explain Heterotrophic nutrition

Time Table fit/ previous knowledge: The learner learnt about the cell and its environment in their previous lesson

Set Induction: The teacher asks the student to observe the object on the table.

Differentiation Method/Multiple Intelligence: The teacher uses different teaching technique such as discussion, role playing, questioning and use of picture to ensure all the learner benefit from the lesson.

NUTRITION

Nutrition is the process by which food is taken by living organism in order to supply the nutrients required for the continuous metabolic reactions giving on in the body. Food is the source of nutrients.

USEFULNESS OF FOOD

1. To provide energy needed for various physical and metabolic activities

 2. To make essential substances such as hormones and enzymes

3. To make new cells for growth and replacement of worn out tissues

4. To supply various substances required for healthy growth and development.

TYPES OF NUTRITION

There are two major types of nutrition Autotrophic and Heterotrophic nutrition

AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION

Autotrophic nutrition is the type of nutrition in which organisms are able to manufacture their own food. These organisms which are able to manufacture their own food are called Autotrophs.

TYPES OF AUTOTROPHIC NUTRITION

There are two types of autotrophic nutrition

i. Photosynthetic (halophytic) and

ii. Chemosynthetic nutrition

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants manufacture their food (organic compounds) making use of carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll

6CO2 + 6H2O Sunlight C6H12O6+ 6O2 (Carbon dioxide) (Water) Chlorophyll (Glucose) (Oxygen)

HETEROTROPHIC NUTRITION

Is the type of nutrition in which organisms cannot manufacture their own food. These organisms are called heterotrophs e.g Fungi, Animals.

FORMS OF HETEROTROPHIC

They are holozoic, parasitic, saprophytic and symbiotic nutrition.

Assessment plan. The teacher uses the following to assess the learners

Class work

Define nutrition

Home work

  1. Explain autotrophic nutrition
  2. Explain heterotrophic nutrition

Multiple choice questions.

1. which of the following is not a form of autotrophic nutrition

  1. Holozoic
  2. Parasitic
  3. Saprophytic
  4. Photosynthesis.

2. The type of nutrition in which organisms are able to manufacture their own food.

  1.  Holozoic
  2. Parasitic
  3. Autotrophic
  4. Photosynthesis.

3. Example of autotrophic nutrition is

  1. Holozoic
  2. chemosynthesis
  3. Saprophytic
  4. Photosynthesis.

Evaluation

  1. Define of nutrition
  2. Explain autotrophic nutrition
  3. Explain Heterotrophic nutrition

Glossary

Autotrophic: The type of nutrition in which organisms are able to manufacture their own food.

Conclusion:  Nutrition is the process by which food is taken by living organism in order to supply the nutrients required for the continuous metabolic reactions giving on in the body.
