150 cm³ of Tetraoxosulphate (VI) Acid Solution (H₂SO₄)

Specimen B

150 cm³ of Sodium Hydroxide Solution (NaOH)

Specimen C

Copper (II) Tetraoxosulphate (VI) Crystals (CuSO₄)

In addition, candidates will have access to common laboratory reagents and apparatus.


Chemistry Practical Question 1: Acid-Base Titration

The first question is expected to involve a titration between the acid solution and sodium hydroxide solution.

Aim of the Experiment

To determine the concentration of one solution using another solution of known concentration.

Apparatus Required

  • Burette
  • Pipette
  • Conical Flask
  • White Tile
  • Funnel
  • Retort Stand

Procedure

  1. Rinse the burette with the acid solution.
  2. Fill the burette with the acid.
  3. Pipette 25 cm³ of sodium hydroxide into a conical flask.
  4. Add a few drops of methyl orange indicator.
  5. Titrate until the endpoint is reached.
  6. Record the titre value.
  7. Repeat to obtain accurate readings.

  • Read the burette at eye level.
  • Remove the funnel before taking readings.
