Introduction
Electricity is one of the most important forms of energy in modern life. It powers our homes, schools, hospitals, and industries.
Without electricity, many devices such as lights, fans, and computers cannot work.
Electricity flows through a path called a circuit.
Meaning of Electricity
Electricity is a form of energy caused by the movement of electric charges through a conductor.
Sources of Electricity
Electricity can be generated from:
- Dry cells (batteries)
- Generators
- Hydroelectric power stations
- Solar panels
Electric Circuit
An electric circuit is a complete path through which electric current flows.
Basic Components of a Simple Circuit
- Cell or battery (source of energy)
- Wires (conductors)
- Switch (controls flow of current)
- Bulb (load)
Types of Electric Circuits
1. Open Circuit
An open circuit is a circuit in which the path is not complete, so current does not flow.
Example:
- Switch is OFF
- Bulb does not light
2. Closed Circuit
A closed circuit is a complete path that allows current to flow.
Example:
- Switch is ON
- Bulb lights up

Conductors

Safety Rules in Using Electricity
- Do not touch electrical appliances with wet hands
- Do not overload sockets
- Use insulated wires
- Switch off appliances when not in use
- Do not repair electrical faults without experts

Practical Activities
